Shari Lapena is a Canadian author of mystery and thriller novels. She was born in 1960 in Canada and grew up in Toronto. Lapena initially worked as a lawyer and English teacher before turning to writing. She is the author of several best-selling novels, including “The Couple Next Door,” “A Stranger in the House,” “An Unwanted Guest,” “Someone We Know,” and “Not a Happy Family.”
Lapena’s debut novel, “Things Go Flying,” was published in 2008. However, it was her second novel, “The Couple Next Door,” that brought her widespread recognition. Published in 2016, the book became an international bestseller and has been translated into over 30 languages. The book tells the story of a couple who leave their baby alone in their house to attend a dinner party next door, only to return and find the baby missing.
